The Appropriate Technology Collaborative (ATC) was founded in 2007 to empower the world’s poorest people with opportunity by design.

We believe it will take more than any single program, technology or individual to end poverty and create a truly equitable world with opportunity for all.   We take a multi-dimensional approach to development which includes “the software” (education, skills enhancement, leadership training, community building, and cross-cultural sharing) and “the hardware” (infrastructure development and income-earning opportunities) to address community needs from their own local knowledge, planning and implementation.  ATC and our collaborating partners create technologies and programs that provide opportunity and empower people to improve quality of life.

Who We Are: The Appropriate Technology Collaborative is an international community of designers, engineers, architects, creatives and experts who collaborate on appropriate technology designs for the development context.  We work with community members, professionals and student design teams to create breakthrough technologies for low income communities.

Why We Do It:

For the billions of people living at the base of the economic pyramid there are few opportunities to improve their quality of life.  ATC creates new state-of-the-art technologies and programs that are affordable, sustainable and create jobs.  We create the conditions necessary for people to improve their quality of life.
